Nice is on show throughout the year! Awarded European City of Sport status in 2011, Nice hosts around 2,000 sporting, festive and cultural events a year! For 2013 these include:
14the Prom’Classic – 6 January 2013 – the Prom’Classic is the first race of the year and, for many years, has been the favourite race for thousands of runners. The sunshine, which is particularly generous in January, and the pleasant atmosphere and festive ambiance that surround the whole event have attracted both amateurs and champions, many of whom return year after year. Since 2010, the Prom’Classic has been first in the rankings of the finest 10km races in France!
The Chagall Museum’s 40th birthday (the world’s only museum dedicated to Chagall) – the Marc Chagall national museum is entering its fortieth year. The first museum dedicated to the work of a living artist opened in Nice in 1973, at the foot of the Colline de Cimiez. In 2013, the museum will be celebrating its 40th birthday with a number of events.
Nice Jazz Festival – 8 to 12 July 2013 – this music festival has been organised in Nice since 1948 and the top international stars have performed here. Since the summer of 2011, the Nice Jazz Festival has abandoned the Cimiez bullring and moved into the city centre.
7th “Jeux de la Francophonie” – 6 to 15 September 2013 – Nice plays host to the 7th “Jeux de la Francophonie”, the biggest sporting and cultural event in the French-speaking world… Youth, sport and culture combine to testify to the solidarity between French-speaking peoples: that’s the essence of the “Jeux de la Francophonie”, a magnificent encounter between 3000 young artistes and athletes from all over the world. Organised every 4 years in the year after the Olympics, the “Jeux de la Francophonie” were founded in 1987 to promote French-speaking youth. As an the days of the Ancient Olympic Games, sporting competition is combined with cultural contests.
