The Magdas Hotel in Vienna offers jobs and training to multilingual former asylum seekers – while making a political statement about the plight of refugees in Europe
Magdas Hotel is a social enterprise set up by the Catholic charity Caritas to give refugees a chance to learn the hotel trade while on the job. Asylum seekers in Austria are rarely allowed to work while their applications are being processed, and can struggle to find employment once they are accepted.
The hotel is a great example of CSR principles being applied in a hotel for a socially conscious business, whilst continuing to offer a great service in stylish surroundings.
