We’re excited to launch our Wheelchair for Jack Fundraising Auction, bringing together our industry’s generosity to help raise money for a specialist wheelchair that will transform the life of our Managing Director’s nephew, Jack. With Christmas fast approaching, this is the perfect opportunity to pick up incredible festive gifts and experiences while making a real difference for an extraordinary young boy.
Why your support matters
Jack has faced more medical challenges than most people experience in a lifetime.
Born with a rare childhood liver disease, Biliary Atresia, along with malrotation of the stomach and bowel and polysplenia, he endured serious complications from birth, including sepsis, cardiac arrest, and a potential liver transplant at six months old. Though he stabilised enough to be removed from the transplant list, Jack was left with developmental issues and was later diagnosed with autism.
In February 2021, at just nine years old, Jack collapsed at home from a massive seizure, caused by a significant bleed on the brain. He underwent multiple life-saving surgeries, including an emergency craniotomy, and suffered a stroke during treatment. He was later diagnosed with AVMs (Arteriovenous Malformations), one of which ruptured.
Since then, Jack has had to relearn how to stand, walk, talk and eat. He spent seven months in a brain injury rehabilitation ward, followed by fourteen weeks at The Children’s Trust. Today, four years on, he continues to make remarkable progress with the help of specialist neurological physiotherapy – and he has recently begun walking with a frame.
Jack has also developed scoliosis and his family have discovered a specialist wheelchair designed to improve posture, support his spine, and slow the curvature. Unfortunately, this life-changing equipment is not covered by the NHS. That’s why we’re raising funds – and why your bids genuinely count.
