Construction starts in February 2017 at the International Convention Centre at Celtic Manor Resort near Newport. The £100m convention centre is due to start the construction phase around the 9th February and last approximately 2.5 years. The chief executive of Celtic Manor Ian Edwards said the new convention centre is set to help Wales compete in the international conference business of which he estimates Wales currently secures just 1.5% of the marketplace.
Consisting of a 4,000 seater ballroom, this will be the largest of only 3 pillar free ballrooms in Europe and the venue will be able to cater for 5,000 delegates in total. In addition to the meeting space the venue will have an additional 700 underground car parking spaces.
Once the venue is open it is expected to bring 100,000 bedroom nights and £70million economic benefit to the local area every year
